Ilkley and District Riding Association celebrates Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

ILKLEY and District Riding Association honors the Queen in May and June to mark Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

During the May Points Show, each contestant was invited to the main ring for a spectacular grand parade.

A spokesperson said: “There must have been at least 60/70 turnout, it was just amazing! Sky Sports Racing presenter Vanessa Ryle judged a horse and a pony she would like to bring back to The winners received a beautiful jubilee rosette and sash in the colors of the Jubilee.

“Vanessa – originally from Ilkley – was so much fun and really interacted with the crowd – as we had a microphone in the ring – giving them some history of when she competed in Ilkley and how she is become a valued member of the team at Sky Sports Racing. She was delighted with her decision and, of course, the lucky winners too.”

The junior winner was nine-year-old Sophia Cardis on Pool’s Fudge Brownie in Wharfedale, which has been riding for three years.

The senior winner was Will Scarlett from Barnoldswick with his horse Josh who joined the Association in 2015.

The IDRA spokesperson added: “It was definitely the highlight of the day and even in the history of the club, because we have never done anything like this in 49 years! We all sang God Save the Queen before the contestants leave the ring For me, I felt the atmosphere on the show field during the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebration was extremely emotional, especially as we know at how important horses are to the queen. It was our own competition!

“We also have a jubilee selfie frame which we invite people to take pictures in and then we’ll announce the winner at our King’s Hall presentation night in November. There are lots of accessories to wear and that’s It’s so fun to see the different pictures the members send us!”

The next show will take place on Sunday (June 19) with a large costume parade on the theme “Fit for a Queen”.

There will be two categories; Juniors and Seniors mounted or in hand. The two winners will receive a rosette and a Jubilee sash plus rosettes for 2nd, 3rd and 4th place.
