Irad Ortiz Jr. has been banned for five days for reckless driving at Royal Ascot.

Violation occurred in Group 2 queen marywhere Ortiz rode love rules, a 2-year-old filly trained by Wesley Ward. The news was reported earlier by The race post.

Love Reigns quickly broke away and took the lead, according to the report, but was heading with a travel groove before being narrowly denied for third place by Maria Branwell.

Stewards felt Ortiz allowed Love Reigns to drift left shortly after the start, forcing Katey Kontent off her intended course.

The race comes after Tuesday’s rocky start aboard big favorite Golden Pal in the King’s Stand (G1). Ortiz was looking at another horse, says Ward The race post, and “nearly fell” when the door opened. Ortiz took Golden Pal close to the lead, but he finished last.

According to the British Horse Racing Authority, the suspension begins June 29, so Ortiz was allowed to keep his three additional mounts for Ward at Royal Ascot: Seismic Spirit at Windsor Castle on Wednesday (where he finished 23rd out of 24), Ruthin at Palace of Holyroodhouse on Friday, and Campanelle at the Platinum Jubilee (G1), also on Friday.
